MFL: "Merde" to foreign languages

Marianne, one of my classmates in EL312, has been the first one to jump the gap, and has opened her own blog on blogger.
She is looking at the current society trend where more and more British people are reluctant to learn a foreign language, specially at the lowest income level.
It is a true problem for Britain, and one whose reflect is composed of many different causes.
Her blog can be found at this address: http://mflinbritain.blogspot.com/

I believe it must be a mistake...saying that -less and less people are "reluctant" to learn foreign languages. Indeed, I reckon the Brittish haven't yet realized that learning foreign languages, even one, can be beneficial for them.

i'm an idiot... I meant to say "more and more". I've corrected it.

I'd need to add that until recently you learned a foreign language because it was mandatory at school.

This has been the case in most of Europe at least, and usually when I mention that I'm French, i got a few middle-aged brits to try and say a few words in French (later adding "oh but i forgot all of that, it was at school").

The difference is that the British government have recently scrapped that, and while other nationalities have gotten their act together to push their youngsters to learn languages without being forced to do it, it is not yet the case in Britain.
So there is this entire new generation growing without this professional advantage and personal "horizon opener" that a foreign language is.
